Recruitment starts when the organization does proper human resource planning. In recruitment, an organization focuses on appointing an efficient employee in a concerned department. Recruitment is a very crucial element because here the organization needs to do a lot of searches and filter the candidate as per the requirement.

According to Edwin B. Flippo, “It is a process of searching for prospective employees and stimulating and encouraging them to apply for jobs in an organization.”

In the words of Dale Yoder, “Recruitment is the process to discover the sources of manpower to meet the requirements of the staffing schedule and to employ effective measures for attracting that manpower in adequate numbers to facilitate effective selection of an efficient working force”.

Sources Of Recruitment

I.Internal Sources

Internal Sources of Recruitment

These are sources that are available in the organization itself which require fewer efforts and less cost.

1. Transfers

These are the best source of recruitment where one employee is being transferred from one location to another of the same company. Many times there might not be a change in designation or hike in payment just the motive will be filling the vacant posts.

2. Employee Referrals

It means the present employees in the organization suggest his references about appointing a new employee to whom he will be knowing more. Here there will be less or zero risk of appointing an unknown employee.

3. Present Employees

Here the employees are being given a promotion with an increase in their designation and pay hikes according to their post. The present employee will be an effective source as they will also be motivated and happy after giving an increment & organization will also have been knowing the employees’ capabilities.

4. Former Employees

Here again, a new change will be given to that employee who has left the organization these employees might be the retired employees who might be ready to work on a part-time basis or with less payment.

II. External Sources

These are sources where the organization has to search the employees from the external environment and then finalize the candidates according to the requirement of the organization.

1. Advertisement

These are the common source here the organization advertises in different ways like displaying pop-up ads on the internet or giving an ad. In the newspaper, professional journals, etc.

2. Employee Exchange

Here the aspiring organization gives details of employee requirement to the employment exchange office then the exchange matches the candidate’s information with them the organization’s requirement and then suggest the required candidates.

3. Campus recruitment

This is the most commonly used source here organization HR staff visit the colleges with courses like management, and engineering and conduct an aptitude test and later personal interviews to select the candidates as per required vacant posts.

4. Labor Unions

If the organization is hiring for construction, hotels, etc. all recruits come from unions. This is advantageous from the management point of view as it saves the expenses of recruitment.
